Russell grew up south of Gallup, NM, on the Ramah-Navajo reservation. His mother is a potter from Tesuque Pueblo and his father is an artist from Ft. Collins, Colorado. Russell studied at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe New Mexico where he graduated in 2015.
Russell's new body of work consists of a larger expansion on his fused glass work as well as his new introduction to work in glass blowing. All of the imagery is inspired from his upbringing, his culture, and the way he sees the world around him. Animals, geometric designs, light and color are all at his disposal when creating glass art.
"Glass is an amazing material. It captivates you, draws you in, and can be used for a boundless number of applications. Light, color, and form come together to create a symphony for the eyes. It's awesome!”
